Srinagar, Apr 09 (KNO): In an unprecedented move, the government is rolling out an Inclusive Education policy to integrate Children with Special Needs (CwSN) with the mainstream government schools. According to the official notes available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the government has said that it is instigating an Inclusive Education policy by integrating CwSN into mainstream government schools. “The government is implementing the policy of Inclusive Education, which envisages integration of children with special needs into mainstream government schools,” reads the official note. The official said that under this framework, such children are provided necessary support identification, services including assessment, assistive devices, resource support, and trained teaching assistance in nearby schools. It also said that the Government is continuously taking measures to strengthen inclusive and barrier-free educational facilities across all districts to ensure equitable access to quality education. “Further, the government in collaboration with various NGOs and other organizations is running the special schools and inclusive schools for the specially abled children across the UT,” it reads. Furthermore, the official notes reveal that the government has proposed to establish two special schools at Hadipora in Sopore and another at Dailgam in Anantnag. “These schools shall be set up after completion of requisite formalities.” “The approach of the government is to ensure accessible and inclusive education through strengthening mainstream schooling systems, supplemented by establishment of specialized institutions at the regional level,” reads the official notes—(KNO)
